I welcome anyones honest opinion of my latest bow. It is 61" long, 64# at 28# and is made of bocote and Osage. I did thin the grip since the photo was taken but it is basically the same. Thanks

Thanks again for your opinions, am new to the bow building but am addicted.

Wow that's pretty!
Is that an arrowhead under the limb bolts? We need to see that!
How does it shoot?

Very nice!...now lets see those limb bolt covers.

It seems to shoot really well but I just started getting into this about a year ago so I am still a young one to this. Yes, it is an arrowhead under the bolt.

Looks like you want suggestions.. I respect that.. I am the same way... here are mine..

1.  I would have left the white out of the tips.. you don't have white any where else.

2.  I can't tell that well by the pic, but looks like your limb pad might not be 100% flat.. that can cause a limb to twist slightly over long use.  So double check that.  Looks like I can see just a bit of a gap on the ends, like the pad area is rounded.

3.  If you are going for perfection, work on the tips to get it symmetrical on the pattern/grain.  But that might not be the look you are going for.

There is my .02 since you are wanting some feedback.  These are just my observation and personal taste.

But really bro... AWESOME bow!  I do love the arrow tips on the limbs, that is way cool.. I always do a wavy pattern.. I like that.

I love the Bocote grain.. so wicked!

How did you get your finish to stick.  The last bow I did with Bocote was a pain in the a$$.

Great job!

Thank you again everyone for your compliments and feedback. The compliments feel good and the advice is greatly appreciated. Including my two long bows, this is number 8 for me, so much is being learned, usually the hard way, so I will listen to anything that can make me better.

Yes Bradford, your observations were correct as well. The tips were not symetrical and the limb pads (at the butt end of riser) have a very slight gap, when unstrung. I used a belt sander on the pads however that is the result I have. I must figure out if it is the riser or limb that is the problem.

I wish I could take the credit for the arrowhead idea but I can not. I have seen this concept somewhere (not foresure where, but somewhere) and thought it was a good idea.

As for the finish, this has two coats of Teak oil along with four coats of Tru Oil Wax. It seems to give a fairly nice look. I believe I may try something like Thunderbird on the next one though.

I did use Tru Oil Gun Oil on some bocote that was on my previous bow and it too seemed to work, but I just do not have enough experience yet to say it was the right choice. I do however REALLY like the looks of Bocote. It also seems easy to work with.

Great job, I am looking into building my first self bow. Im trying to decide if I want to do a long bow or recurve.
The things you do today will be tomorrows topics of conversation, make it a good story!
