Greg I really like them veneers you put on my bow   :D  The riser layout is sweet as well.

I'll give her a good home   :readit:

Lots of sweet bows coming together in this and other threads.

Always say what you mean, that way people will know you mean what you say.

Can't think of anything to say that hasn't already been said.  Way to go Greg.

I kind of feel stupid for cutting a perfectly good bow stave in half... but I've almost got it back together now....

I had to make a jig to keep everything aligned for the machining.

I built a box and wedged everything into place.

Once everything is aligned, I can route out the ends for the takedown fixture.

Ends done.

Then the back has to be cut.

Pretty nice fit....

Both pieces routed out.

Now I have to bed both of the fixtures in epoxy, then put in the screws.

After the epoxy dries I can put in the screws and glue on the end grain phenolic covers.

If it all comes together.....I can actually start making the bow.

hova

that is really awesome. what kind of screws are you using to secure these kind of take down mechanism?

do you suppose the ends could be carved out for this system?

I'm using stainless steel machine screws, drilled and tapped.

I'm a firm believer that anything you can do with power tools you can do with hand tools.... sometimes faster.  That said, I've screwed up putting this into a stave twice before.  I also used to have it in a BBO, but the bow broke so I salvaged the connection system.

Ruddy,

I've built a couple of sleeved takedowns.  On both of them, the wood shrunk over the winter in the house (dry heat here in teh winter) and the sleeves came loose.

Greg in Malad...   Light?   Did you say light?      :bigsmyl:    Beautiful bow.   I just love quilted maple.  Used to make muzzle loader stocks with it and have done two bows

No-sage, I like this takedown system also, is it custom made or are they available through one of the many suppliers on this site?  I've also had similar problems with the sleeve system.

Dan,

It's called a bevellok.  Kuston King sells them, but they're not cheap.

There used to be a web site for the manufacturer, but it seems to be closed down.
