hey guys,

a friend and me are planning a new r/d glass-longbow. it´s a mild r/d profile, and its 62" ntn. now i´m thinking about the taper rates. what do you guys think?

Hi Hermann,
i think a total taper of 0.004 is a good point to start. I have built a couple mild d/r-longbows like that and they all came out nicely. They bend nice and there is just a little bit of reflex left when the bow is strung.

I'm gonna try a total taper of 0.005 on the next one, because somebody asked me if i could build her a bow according to the FITA rules. That is no visible reflex in the limbs when the bow is strung.

This one has .003 total,1 -.002 and 1 -.001(belly) 64" d/r, 18" riser 1 7/16" wide  at fades





With a mild r/d, .004 will work, especially if it is narrow limbed,like 1.25" at fades.

Personally .002 for a mild r/d works great.  I also add a power lam to 4" past the fade outs.  it shortens up the working limb and still has enough umph to move a heavy arrow.  Its all about experimentation.  dont expect the first one to be exactly as you want it.  you might hit it just right though.  Take a good look a Kennym's r/d.  he's got a great design.

This one uses actionboo .004 taper. Got all my materials from Kenny M. Top quality  

I dont like that much taper in shorter bows. I use .002 in bows that length. I have built some with all straight lambs with good results. Less taper will be smoother drawing.

It depends on the width. More taper the more narrow you go.
