Everything I read on twisted limbs in recurves said Hot water, I would think that a heat gun would be to hot. I also don't have a clue as to twist during a glass build.

Just a thought.

I've used a hair dryer from a distance of about 12 inches to warm up the limb.

Swissbow

I will try with a hair dryer. I don't like to use hot water because the bow is not finished yet and the wood of the limbs is not sealed and I'm afraid the wood might soak up the water.

Remember to only warm up the limb not get it hot.  You should be able to touch it when it's warm.

Swissbow

I tried with a hair dryer and it worked out pretty well. Like you said I only warmed the limb a bit so that I could bend it back with bare hands. Thanks again, Jason !

Ok, it's time to continue with Caroline's bow. After shaping the limbs we glued the tips and shaped the roughly.

Then we started shaping the riser...

...the colors of the desert camo actionwood are perfect for a girl bow...

...until it perfectly fits the hand of Caroline...

Hope we can finish the riser and the overlay that weekend and after that a lot of sanding lies ahead of Caroline.

What a great sense of accomplishment Caroline will have when the bow is complete and what a great sense of accomplishment you will have in her! Very cool father/daughter colaberation! Can't wait to see the finished bow and the proud owner/builder at full draw!

Went shooting the bow with Caroline for the first time that weekend. The bow is a few pounds heavier than her last bow, but she got used to it quickly and she's really happy with it.

Actually I intended to finish the bow that weekend but Caroline wanted to shoot it, so the overlay is still not done yet. But hey, if we're not doing it today, we are going to do it tomorrow... d;-)

:clapper:  Cool bow. Guess you both are proud.
Never believe that you are worthless .... you can always be used as a bad example!

Very cool. Caroline has great form. She looks like Diana the archer!

The most frightening thing you are likely to encounter in nature is yourself.

Thanks guys for the kind words. Caroline is very excited about her bow and this post. She asks me all the time if there are any new comments.

So here we go for another step in the making of her bow. First we sand the back of the riser on the drum sander until its square and flat...

After that we glue the white and red phenol and fix it with c clamps...

It almost looks like an olympic recurve bow with the stabilizing rods... ;-)

All we have to do now is wait until tomorrow till the glue has cured completely...

Ok, we are moving towards the finishing line with this project. The glue has cured and the phenol strips are glued on the back of the riser...

With a rasp we start shaping the overlay...

After that we round the edges of the overlay...

... until Caroline is happy with it.
