Hey Gang,

Papa Bear hit me up to make up a form that will match his favorite bow and then to put together the basic tools and equipment we need to actually make several.  I am looking for ideas of where to buy bamboo limb cores pre-tapered, and also veneers for the front and back of the bow limbs.  I already have a good supplier of riser material for the bows.

I made a couple of bows back in high school and it looks like I am going to be getting back into it here shortly.

Anyways let me know where you guys are shopping if you would.

Thanks

You should also check out Binghams Projects.  They have some of the other items you will need.  I have never used Kenny myself, that will change soon, only hear great things about him and service.

Lots of places, Binghams, 3 rivers, Old Master Crafters, Fedora, etc...

I bought some from Kenny McKenzie (referenced above) and I will continue to use his services.  He will get you exactly what you ask for in a timely manner.

I used Fedora on my first 2 bows. I mean no disrespect but it took over 2 weeks to get to me. That was an eternity. The materials were of good quality though. I have seen where folks get stuff from KennyM a lot faster. Kenny is on here all the time as a contributor to our threads and is very accessible. 3 Rivers is very reliable but they don't offer a lot of choices in taper and grain choice and I don't know how long the lams have been sitting on the shelf. Some woods oxidize and should be glued up within a reasonable amount of time after being ground I think. You will get fresh custom cuts from Kenny.

I buy maple veneer packs from woodcraft.  the 12 sq ft. pack comes with six 6" wide 48" long, and .030" (approx) thick veneer sheets.  about $16.00

But for laminations, Kenny's Kustom is unmatched.

Thumbs up for Kenny  ! His lams are of unmatched quality, he delivers fast and his prices are hard to beat. And on top of that he's a nice guy.

Thanks for the heads up on this guys.  I will check out his website.  I am not actually going to be building my own bows.  I am working with Papa Bear to help him with replicating a bow he loves.  I will be sure to ask lots of questions.  Right now I am rounding up the wood to be able to make the forms for the bow and then it will be time to purchase the bow materials.

Thanks again

KennyM don't play, and if you butter him up jess right he'll glue you up one of his fancy risers, or even a whole bow.  This coco is 'bout as perty as I've ever seen.
