bocote riser

is bocote a strong enough wood for a riser to use by itself without an accent strip? i plan to try and build a T/D recurve that should be bewteen 45-50#'s @ 28"

It should be strong enough and I would do it.  But I'm sure an expert will be along here and let you know for sure.  good luck.

Bocote is dense and strong and you could use it without an accent stripe (barring any defects in the individual piece of wood). Bocote looks realy good however, with yellow or orange accents.  Just remember when finishing that bocote is an oily exotic and not all finishes will cure on it.

I think it will work just fine.  Can't recall if I have ever used it without  an accent or not.  I would look it over real well and if all appears well use it.
