It has some deflex in one limb. Im gonna have to throw it on the form to get that out and pull one tip to the side just a little and I might as well add some reflex while I am at it.

Thanks

Shipped my trade bow out this morning!Watch the mail!

4est trekker

Well, since I received my bow already from Brad, I figured I had better get a move on with building my trade bow.  Here's a few pictures of the process.  My brother-in-law (the one in the picture) and I cut and split this osage log about a few springs ago:

It yielded a nice little stash of staves:

Here's the one I selected for the trade.  I can heat that bend out with no trouble.

Reduced it to a rough 2" width with my hatchet:

Here it is after rough-profiling it.  Limbs (especially tips) are left wide at this point:

Making a nice pile of kindling!

Here is after another round of shaping, both from the front profile and side:

After a little heat, I got it straightened out pretty well.  I'll touch it up later as needed.  Don't have any pictures of the first tiller check yet, but it drew very nicely on the long string.  I've got to put some reflex in the limbs and flip the tips.  I don't know if I'll use heat on the tips or use the splined technique.

All for now!

Your making quick work of that 4est and its looking great.

Swissbow

After all the cool bows you guys already have made for the trade I had to start as well. So here I go ! Today I started with glueing up the riser piece. It's made of walnut and I added a thin accent strip of red phenol between two stripes of osage.

Here I have everything ready for glue up...

...and here it's glued up and between the clamps...

Tomorrow I will continue with the riser and prepare the lams and the glass for the glue up.

Ok, I did some more work on the bow today. With my template I draw the outline of the riser...

...cut it out and started sanding the radius until it fits to the bow form. Against the light I check if the riser fits...

With a pen I mark the spots where I have to remove some more wood...

Then I sand, check again and so on until I'm satisfied and the riser fits perfect. The next step consists of sanding the fades on the riser. Here the lams, the glass and the riser are ready for glue up.

Can't wait to see the osage lams under clear glass. I bet they look killer.

Thats osage is going to look great under the glass Andy.
