Well, if you do you all are more than welcome to every bit of it, 'cause I HATE the crap!

(Woa, I thought ebony was bad, I'll be suprised if I survive this, I still have to finish shaping the riser and sand it smooth.)

whats going on? wear out all your belts? you looking to get rid of it?

Jesse Peltan

If you don't want it send it to me.

Mike Mecredy

No, I got just enough to do the one bow I'm working on, then I hope to never be in the same county as a piece of ipe.

I was simply rasping the riser down to get the intial shape and I got about every allergic reaction I could think of; nose turned to Niagra falls, I itched, eyes burned, couldn't breath heart raced, etc.  Serious; it was worse than the gas chamber I went through on my intial NBC (Nuclear bio, chemical) training I went through as a young ariman.

I was wishing I could have an onion to stick my face in to alieviate the irratation.

That really sucks.  Were you wearing a respirator?

Roy from Pa

Just happened to me Mike last weekend. Eyes about swelled shut and face got burnt. No more IPE for me.

I would be happy to take some of it off your hands...drop me a PM telling what you have and what you want for it and we can deal.  I have a strip of bamboo just aching to become a bow for a buddy moving to oklahoma to become the new pastor....
I humbly follow in the learned footsteps of those who precede me.

Mike Mecredy

Yep I use my respiratory protection, one of those nice rubber half face jobs with removable cartriges.  I learned to use the stuff when I was an Aircraft Fuel System Mechanic.

Nope, no extra, I have just enough for the bow I'm doing and won't have anymore.

Allergic reactions are interesting things.  Good luck with finishing it up Mike.  Take care.

I wear one of those cheap masks while working it.  I have never had a reaction, but my nose and throat feels funny after working it without a mask.

Dang Mike, I am so sorry I sent it to you. I've built a couple bows with it and never had anything like that happen to me.

No problem Kenny, some people are alergic to stuff others aren't.  I suppose it's best to find out what I can and can't work with.

I'll just have to work it a little at a time.

weird how it affects everyone different. I get a little headache if i am covered in the dust and forget to put on a mask, but no itch, rash, etc...

LOL, i have an image of Mike coming out of the gas chamber, flapping his arms, streaming from the face, drill sergeant laughing...least thats how it happened to me

Had another run in with IPE last night. Replaced the filter on the shop vac and cleaned the foam inner filter, it was pretty dusty. Never gave it a thought, then about 4 hours later I was inchen like crazy. Had to take a shower at 1AM to get all the dust off me. Then smeared the steroid cream back on like before. Not nearly as bad a reaction as the first time though.
