What kind of paint would you use on raw hide backing. I want to dress it up Indian style.

You can get craft paint from Wally World. It is water based and comes in many different colors.

I would seal it with whatever you seal the bow with. Do a test first to be sure they are compatible. I used Tru-Oil on a replica of Jay Massey's Medicine Bow I made a few years ago. It had an arrow and head coming out of the handle up and down.

Pat I would love to see a pic. of that one or all you have painted. I need some ideas, I haven't painted one before.

Ranger, I don't have immediate access to pics of this bow nor do I have the bow here at home. Every part of this Medicine Bow was given to me by friends. All I did was build the bow. In return I send it to the contributors to use for a while and them pass it on to the next. So far it has taken 2 deer(one with stone) and one hog. None by me. d;^)
 If I can locate pics I will post them.

Well I found them on the first disc I tried.
This bow is 60" long and pulls between 45#@26" and 65#@26" depending on the RH at the time. It is hickory with 3 layers of emu sinew covered with rawhide.


 For some reason I can't get the rest to come up. I'll try again in a bit.

 Like I said this is a copy of a bow Jay Massey made. The design was his but it is a cool design.
 Sorry for the poor quality pics. They were some of the first dig pics I loaded into a computer ...and not very well either.
