longbowhntr, really nice looking bow! Looks as though you followed the growth ring right up the limb. It's really cool that the center was removed. Did it come out easy or did you have to pick and dig a lot?

The center of the knots were pretty soft, I did have to dig a little to get them cleared out. That bow had several firsts for me...

Here's a knot on first character bow.  The stave didn't have any crazy knots, but they were knots none-the-less.

I was wondering if anyone would get that. :-)

Guys, these photos are great... I'm new to the site and have only managed one bow that hasn't broken. Workin' on a second red oak board bow.  I can only wish to be able to produce such artful pieces of work.

here is a bow that was near completion when i got it . its a gift from mr pat brennen.it neede final tiller sanding , a finish, and a handle wrap.this bow has been in a few posts im proud of itthanks mr pat. back of bow upper limb knot, mr pat calls it a texas peep sight tips are black walnut lower limb pin knots belly side of texas peep sight here is a pic of the handle wrap, i had to do the stitch on the heel side due to fitment trouble of a bulbous handle. lower limb belly side pin knots and finally a strung profile im currently working on another bow but it was fun learning on this. i really love the beauty of osage. thanks again mr pat

At first, i was very reluctant to cut into the knots, and thought of going wide around them...but the bows just wouldn't bend.  So i just rasped through them, filled them with superglue or epoxy...good to go.

Awesome pics guys.  If my garage ever gets warm (right now it's about 5 degrees)  I'll get out and start tillering my osage stave.  It's got a few cool and possibly dangerous knots to work through.  The pics really give me some insight and encouragement!
