Hey, I'm lookin for a good all around rasp that could do it all, from shaping the riser area to tillering. However, I really don't have a lot of money. I know ya'll like the Nicholson 49-50 and the UBR 10 but man, they're so expensive. I was looking at a simple Farrier's rasp and wondered if that would do the trick. Or the Nicholson 4 in 1 rasp.

i have a four in one "hobby rasp" from sears, i think it was 9$ i love it.  i have not used any fancy ones but it has worked great on risers, tips and to trap limbs.

A farriers rasp is a good bow building tool. Only problem is it is flat. A half round  or a 4 in 1 along with the farriers rasp will get you a ways down the road for not much money. If you know a farrier you might get a used one from him for free. They use them just so long before they replace them.

Yeah Pat I wasa farrier for about five or six years and I went through a rasp every 20 horses. They get a little dull after that and don't remove hoof material as fast as a new one. They where still plenty sharp enough for wood.

You can get a good farriers rasp for about 20$ brand new at a local farm supply store like Rural king or Tractor Supply. The upper brand farries rasp will cost you 30 or 40 bucks and wouldn't be worth the money in my opinion. I tried them all and the upper end ones only got me through ten more horses or so.

The farriers rasp I have was given to me 10 years ago by a farrier; one he was throwing away. It will still take the hide off your knuckles if you are not careful!

My vote is for the 4 in one. It has been invaluable.

I've had the hide gone plumb down to knuckle on more than one occasion. LOL
I also agree with pappy, the 4 in one is indespensible. I use it alot when I make turky calls.
