My finest work on a riser to date...I think you will like it...took me a long time but I took quite a few pics along the way.

Starting with Paduak wedges.

I made a grinding sled (this sled is for 8 1/4" wedges...so I had to final finish these by hand.

Laminations consist of .040 glass and Zebra lams.  I was really worried about the Zebra as I have seen some guys have had some problems with it in the past.  So I put a coat on and let it sit a minute, then did another...hoping the pores would soak up quite a bit prior to adding another.

It must have worked...both limbs came out perfect..I was very happy

Added the tip overlays.  They consist of alterations of 1/16 white and tan linen phenolic

Now for the good part...I took a 1 1/8 block of Zebra and glued on a scrap strip of Paduak and a scrap strip of Grey Actionwood.

Then run it through the 10-20 to get is square again.

I then took a fingerjoint bit and routed one side and ran another piece through as well. I then glued those up as shown (this will be the middle piece of my riser).

Here are the other 9 pieces of the riser.

Into the oven they go.

Here is the angle cut of the riser...This was my first time trying points...and I was pretty excited.

The shelf cut...the big moment to see what is underneath

It worked!

Starting to shape the riser...Lady likes it.

bjansen

Glue on a thumbrest (just an extra cut off piece from the riser)

Continue to shape the riser

bjansen

Installing a few inserts.  A plunger insert, stabilizer and side...might not use any...but wanted to try it.

After a solid week of filling the pores of that dang Paduak...I finished with 4 thin coats of Thunderbird....

Like I tell my wife on almost all of them I make.....I'm keeping this one!
