Made a red oak board bow.  Backed it with fiberglass drywall tape.  Bet it won't break but looks like he--!  Is there any magic elixer I can coaat it with to hide the ugliness?

Yes,cover it with snake skins.

anything else?  Like a coat of fiberglass epoxy or something?

You can coat the back with epoxy to fill in the holes in the tape, then maybe, spray paint camo?  I think you're pretty limited on options.  You may try a printed linen or silk backing.  I think Roy's idea of some type of skin would cover the best though.

The more you add to the back the heavier the limbs will be and that will decrease speed and add hand shock. If you add snake skins or rawhide you will be able to see the texture of the dry wall tape through the backing. I guess you could spray paing the back to cover the FG tape.
  I never understood the dry wall tape backing thing. There are way better options out there for bow backings, IMO, than fiberglass dry wall tape. I would rather have something that would give a full, even coverage than a mesh type covering.

I rather agree with Pat, but you could give it a couple of coats of Titebond and then back that with some thin burlap. That shouldn't add too much weight.

Co to a fabric shop and buy some intresting print, camo, snake skin, or tiger stripe. Glue it over your dry wall tape with wood glue and finish with any poly, spar urathane or Tru-Oil.
