What's floor tillering, and could somebody explain it to me?

It's getting the limbs to bend anywhere from 6" to 10" when you bend it against the floor.  You put one end of the stave against the floor and hold the other end in one hand so the stave is vertical.  With the other hand, you push on the handle to make the bow bend against the floor.

I generally floor tiller to only about 4" of tip movement. All I am doing is trying to see the bend of each limb to be sure there are no problem spots(hinge,etc). I also compare the 2 limbs for their resistance and recovery. When I'm sure everything is OK I go to a long string and the tiller tree, beginning with only 4" of tip movement and compare the limbs to each other.

You hold the bow limb close to your leg and look down it as you bend it. If you see a section that is not bending, take note of it, scrape a little wood off this place and recheck. It will take a bunch of scraping and checking to get an even bend in your limb.
