Hello all, I am a soldier that is currently stationed in Iraq and looking for the advice and knowledge to build a solid hunting bow upon return from the deployment. I have made a couple of board bows in the past, but did not have arrows and the other goodies to really test them out before my current deplpoyment. Right not I will not be back in the states until june/july, but am picking brains on the subject. I own most of the recommended books, and have a good amount of hand tools.
I am looking for what type of stave/boards to use, and were to buy them. I am also interested in arrows, and fletching. I search the internet when I am able, but it is slow going when you have a time limit.
THanks,
SFC Bayles

SFC Bayles, When you are ready to come home, contact me and I will send you an osage stave and some hill cane and feathers for arrows and help you in any way I can so you can make your set up. Keep this site in mind as you are working on these items and ask questions and we will come up with answers to help you solve any problems that may arise.
Be safe while you are overseas and thanks for your service. Consider this be a welcoming home present to you and a small token of appreciation to you for your service.
If you want to contact me, please do!

I am from michigan, but live in texas when not home. My goal is to keep putting the money away, and buy some land in arkansas to retire to. I have been in for 10yrs so half way.
I am stationed at FT Hood, and have been over here in Iraq 3 times. So you can almost say Home is here in the desert.
Thanks for any info and future support when I make it home and the shavins are flying.

Josh e-mailed me this morning. I will try to have the stave, cane and feathers at his home for him when he gets there. Then we can all pitch in to help Josh build a bow that he will be proud of and feel comfortable hunting with.
This is a very small price for me(or anyone else) to pay in exchange for Josh's, and all of our HEROES overseas, service to our country.
