where do you find your staves?  I am looking for a place to cut some osage and hickory as I do not want to order them.

They grow like weeds around Winchester, to include the median of I 81. I also have cut some near culpepper.  We have some over here near elkton I have access to, but they are HUGE and OLD. Fellow that goes by spyderman lives up near winchester cut with me years past.  I have some nice pignut here on my land near elkton, you are welcome to come and cut.

I live in WVa but this has helped me in Va also.I'm sure it will help anywhere.Frist off I talk to the farmers I hunt on.
  Or just hit the back roads.I check out the old grown up farms first.If you can find out who owns them.Most will just let you go cut what you want.
  Or if it's being farmed some will let you cut what you want,some will let you for a little help.which might get foot in the door in a little hunting.Others might let you cut a log or two for the left over fire wood.YOU CUT UP.Who knows the reason you could think up.

Sounds great! I have spring breack the first week of march.  Maybe we can get together sometime around then, itd be nice to talk to somebody with some experience b/c im a relative newbie.  Ive made some board bows, and one osage bow but I want to move up to staves.  I would be more that willing to help you cut/carry in exchange for some bow wood.

I'll have to talk to some of the owners of the properties I hunt.  I know one is covered up with hickory, so that could work out.  Im pretty sure he wouldnt mind trading a hickory tree for some split firewood.
