this may be a silly question, but how important is for the bow form to be perfectly flat/square. if it is not square will it make the limbs twist? also does the form have to be shaped perfectly? any help would be much appreciated.

kennym

As close as you can! Out of square WILL make limbs twist. The better the form, the better(and better lookin) the bow will be.

Here is how I do mine, hope it helps...

kenny,
thanks that helped a ton. i know what your talking about. i just started and its already getting expensive. i made my own form, and i'm not sure i like it, too much deflex not enough reflex. i also cut mine with a jig saw and then sanded. i didn't use the router. while it is very close to square, i fear it may not be close enough. oh well better luck next time. thanks for your help. anyone else with some input im looking for all the advice i can get

I am making my forms now with a 1/2 template and a router as well.. just like Kenny's pics...cut it close on the bandsaw and then route it out...flip to the other side and redo.  Instead of usign the base as a template, I use an edge bearing router bit...its the way to go i think.
