Im wanting to build a new set of limbs for my bow..How do you estamate the poundage you want???  :confused:

length and lam thickness.  The longer they are the less poundage.  If you build a pair the same length but thicker, they will be stronger.  I've never built a take down, so someone else will have to offer their take on "how" much thicker.  In my straight longbow designs, it takes around .020 to make 5 lbs.

Look at Binghams site. They have a pretty good weight chart for their bow kits.

Mic the limbs you have now and adjust from there. Depending on the style.i.e recurve,longbow,hybrid the thickness per # needed to SWAG (scientific wild a** guess) poundage will vary.For instance my recurves are.001 per #,T/D longbow .003 per # and my hybrid is .0025 per #
You'll need to build the first set to give you a benchmark to work from

My takedown bow have 70 cm limbs (27.5" from nock to screw hole). I use from back to belly in order
-black fiberglass 0.05 and 1 1/2"
-locust 1.5 mm  (0.06") 70 cm length
-locust 1.2 mm  (0.05")  35 cm length
-locust  6mm tick for 10 cm long and then tapper for another 12 cm
-locust 1.2 mm 70 cm long
-fiberglass 0.05" 1 1/2

This bow give me 55# at 28". From experience even trying to duplicate using the same materials never get the same results but very close. As  PV said before start building a pair based on other experience and compare with your results. Keep a log of your bow dimension and after that it is possible to extrapolate from one bow to another. Good luck!
