I was thinking about chopping a longbow to add t/d system. anyone done this before? what system was used?

I think the Robertson Connexion Hinge is a good choice for this.  Basically, you install the hinge before you cut the bow, thereby preserving the alignment.

I did it to make a bow out of two broken ones, using the metal sleeve from raptorarchery.com-worked out fine, and I salvaged a bow.
I strongly urge you not to do it to a good bow that you like-it will never be the same again. Make a new one as a takedown, or order one as a takedown.

thanks guys, I do llike the bow but have some travel plans and a t/d would be pretty easy to get around with.

Don't use a "chop saw" power miter saw. The fiberglass does not respond well to this. Use a fine toothed hand saw. Take pictures and show us a build-along if it works out.

Remember you'll have to use micarta or something to replace what you removed. I've seen the bow be steadied in a close fitting mitre box, made just for the occasion. You wrap a layer of plastic wrap around the riser area, lay it in the box, then fill the voids with A-B type foam isulation (Great Stuff in a can). The Connexion hinge has gotten a bad rap over the years, but I believe that had more to do with improper screws being used. Here is a great tutorial for the bow bolt system.

after much thought cooler heads won. I traded the bow for a roy hall 3 pc td longbow. thanks guys for the input.although I must say you guys are like some of my friends from high school trying to get me to snort pudding or something.

maybe next time I will chop one up and try something crazy.
