I need to find some pink handle material for a St Judes knife I donated to last years Turkey Hunt Drawing offered up by Don Batten.  Miss Mills Langehans is the winner.  I already made a knife for the event but until a few weeks ago, I hadn't realised she was only 11 years old.  This needs to be a little girl's knife...tippit

I think I have a couple of small pieces of pink ivory at the house.  They may not be big enough, though.

How soon do you need them?  I don't have anything on hand right now, but I can keep my eyes open for something special.  Be glad to help if I can.

It is a caper style with a small handle.  AOL 7 inches.  So a piece 3 1/2 X 1 1 1/4 inches will work.  Just thought I'd check and see if anyone had something pink laying around...tippit

I had an awesome piece of bright purple dyed/stabilized curly maple that I used a couple months back.  I wish I'd known then that there would be a better use for it.  I'll keep my eyes open in case you don't find what you're looking for.

Gil,
I thought about that but it just seems too plain.

I dug through my wood pile again and still couldn't find anything, but I thought of another option.  I know you can get water based stains in various shades of pink.  I've seen guys use them on bow limb veneers before.  All you would need would be a light colored wood like curly maple, maple burl, birch burl, etc to put it on.  I've also seen some pink dyed buckeye burl before that looked pretty good; bright pink with the natural dark gray/black streaks and eyes that buckeye usually has.  Just a thought.

Jeff,

I have some scrap dogwood.  It has a pink cast to it with dark streaks.  Might work especially with a stain.   Just a thought.

Jeff, I did a Christmas knife for a customer for his wife from Pink Ivory.
Really dense and hard and shapes well.
Not hard to find.

I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

I never thought about staining wood like I do with brown leather dye on curly maple.  Now a hunt for pink leather leather dye  :)

Jeff, I have some red leather dye, it might do the trick depending on the color of the wood. this is where I was experimenting.

I'll have to try it.  If it will stain a piece of that curly maple, that would be perfect.

I think I have seen some pink camel bone. I will look for where I saw it.

Try tulip wood, it is pink and cream streaks........hard and even smells nice when you work it. I have a chunk I'll send you if you're not in too much of a rush.
I'll take a pic today and post it this evening.

Darcy,
Thanks for the offer...but I wanted something Really Pink.  The Rit fushia stain seems to be the ticket.

Thanks for everyone's help in my quest...Jeff
