My plan is to knock out a bunch of these in order to spend more time focusing on forging and grinding.  Nothing special, just 1084 steel, 9.5" OAL with a 4.25" blade, which I hot blued for corrosion resistance.  The tang has a coat of truck bedliner under the cord wrap.  

After fighting with it for a long time (because I'm stupid) the flat grind is finally starting to click.  You can't tell it from this one, but a couple of others I have on the bench show big improvements.

Any criticisms are appreciated as always.

I have a question about  your blade. Your hardening line appears to be not covering the entire edge. Is that what I'm seeing? I ask because bluing, etching, etch will often show that line.

I like the proportions on this knife. The blade length and handle length work well together. Keep up the good work.

I don't think that's a hardening line, but rather a blotchy etch.  I tested the edge prior to bluing, and it seemed to be good the entire length.  I also did a full quench and not an edge quench on this blade.  I do see what you're saying though, and can easily see why that would be a concern.

Nothing wrong with simple hunting knives.  That's all that I carry.  If you are using bed liner & use rubber gloves to skin/clean your game, try it without the cord.  You will probably get a great grip with rubber to rubber.  My simple skinner with rubber horse stall mat proved that for me in Kansas this past week...tippit

I may give that a try on the next one, tippit.  I also thought about the rubber tool handle dip for this.  It seems to be a little thicker than the rattle can stuff and will give a little extra grip.
