Does anyone have experience using cypress as handle material?  My brother has some uncut cypress that has been drying in his garage for several years and offered it to me if I can use it.  I figured I'd ask if anyone knows if it would make a good knife handle before I accept.

Would I have to have it stabilized or will Tru-Oil be sufficient to ensure it doesn't come apart if it gets wet, etc?

Thanks,

Bald cypress is about like pine. Pretty soft and brittle.

If it has good grain you can have it stabilized.  Then it will make good scales.
