I'm using Tru-Oil to finish the hunters I'm assembling.  In order to get a good final coat, should I try to dip the handle or is there a better way to ensure a smooth application?  I've been using a piece of t-shirt to apply coats 1-3 and it gets kinda smooth, but not "finished" smooth.

I wipe on with paper towel and immediately wipe everything off.  Then repeat coats.  Comes out very smooth for me...tippit

Are you sanding lightly between coats? Lots of literature recommends steel wool. I use the the very fine 3M sanding pads. I find that the steel wool can stain the grain in lighter woods.

Smooth layers underneath makes for a smooth final layer.

I'll try the paper towel thing on the next coat when I get home tonight.

I'm using 00 steel wool between coats.  So far, no staining of the zebra wood.  I think I may have some 3M pads around the house somewhere so I can give them a try as well.

I actually used my finger to apply coats and sanded with 0000 steel wool between.  Came out real smooth for me.  Sounds like some others have some good techniques down.  Hope it comes out well for you-post some pics when you're done, I love Zebrawood   .

I used a paper towel to apply last night's coat.  I checked them this morning and they look pretty darn good.  Final coat should go on tonight and I'll get some pics up on Friday.
