(I can see now I had some smears on that guard - but - oh, well.)

I've had this small piece of Ivory laying around now for nearly two years and decided to make a dressy little hunter out of it.
I hope you can spy the chatoyance in this blade. It's something I've been working on, and it exceeded my hopes, that only first-hand observation can appreciate.
Stainless guard sets off 1095/15N20 blade.
Faceted spine gives it an added touch.

When the last buffalo falls on the plains,

Really like the looks of that one.  Just out of curiosity, what thickness is the material you used for the finger guard?  I'm going to hopefully be ordering some soon and like yours.

Great job.

Jeremy, I don't order bar stock for my guards very often. But I have used a lot of 1/2" X 1". I usually mill it down to about .430 - .450" for hunters 'cause .500 is just too thick.

That is one beautiful knife WELL DONE  Thanks for sharing

Thank, Karl.  I'm trying to get some of my proportions looking better and my guard/handle ratios could use improvement, to say the least.  Is that an area you think the Golden Mean could be applied?  Again, great looking knife.

Me and the Golden Mean don't get along, especially as regards the ricasso.
I build mostly according to what looks proportionately appealing to my eye.

Karl I really like that Faceted spine, I bet that was hand done with a  file? Great looking knife.

Jeremy let me know how that goes and where I can get my eyeball calibrated.

Yep - First I made sure everything was quite flat and scribed a center line using a height gauge and granite surface plate. This is necessary because of the acute distal taper in the blade.
Then, draw file with coarse bastard file, finish off with fine single cut file, than hand sand the facets with steel bar 220, 400, 800 and 1200 prior to etching.
Piece o' cake.
