This a 9 3/4 inch blade and an OAL of 15 inches. The blade is 5160 and the handle is Desert Ironwood. I stopped the tang just short of flush with the handle and drilled a hole in it and dressed it up smooth. That's what the lanyard is attached to. It's a mortised tang, so I was able to extend the mortise out into the recessed butt.

 

How sweet is that. Pretty darn Sweet (if you ask me)

Nice looking chopper, makes you want just grab it and start wailing on some brush.  I've never seen a lanyard attachment like that.  Cool idea!

That's about the slickest lanyard attachment I've ever seen. I've got a challange for you, though. I was clearing out some shooting lanes on our sporting clays shotgun course. Hand got sweaty (so did everything else). Machete slipped out of my hand. Embarrassed me no end, but nobody got hurt. Put a piece of paracord through the hole on the butt and thought I was good to go. Slipped again and nearly lost a leg. I tried an idea I've seen in the blade cutting competitions, with the lanyard through a hole at the front of the grip. Now THAT really locks it in your hand. Question for you. How do you make that look like you did more than just drill a hole through the handle where there wasn't supposed to be one.

I dont like the hole through the handles when it's in front. Here is the way I deal with it.

And since the questions are coming, I'll add one.  What's the thickness of the finger guard material on the one you just posted-3/8"?  And is that 416 SS?  Ok, that's two questions....

I say that because I had to replace the handle on it. That is Bodark, yes green Bodark (100 plus year old ). It cracked before I got good and done with it.

Maybe 16 - 20 hours. I really dont know. This knife is a field grade model and I use a Scotchbrite belt on the blade. Easy to maintain.

Lin, I saw the little stag hunter of yours in Knives 2012. Looks as good in the book as it did on the forum here. Just an all around comfortable looking practical knife with impeccable workmanship. Want to pick it up and hold it just from looking at it.
