Is there a secret to keeping tru-oil over time without it harding-up? I do buy the small containers and try to do several handles at a time. I also store it upside down so that it hardens on the bottom of the container. But, there must be a better way. Jon

Those are marketed with the concept being they are going to finish a gun stock.
It's not really designed to be kept that long.
I just switched to using pure tung oil most of the time for that very reason.

Same here.  I use Formby's tung oil.

I don't use tru-oil for just that reason.  I use Danish oil and coat over it with a hard carnuba wax using a clean muslin wheel.

Montauks

I have a friend who is into woodworking, he puts marbles in his poly containers till the fluid reaches the top thus keeping out much of the air.
What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

It always hardened up on me over time, but I only used it for gun stocks, and had to buy more the next time I needed it.

Marbles as Montauks mentioned.

Tru Oil also comes in a spray can...that shouldn't dry out.
