Lin that is awesome!A beauty for sure.Good work.

Lin Rhea

Thanks arrowflipper.

The head is mild steel with a 1084 bit welded in. I forged and welded this one in a coal forge. The haft is some Hard Maple that a friend cut a long time ago, maybe 30 years, and had drying in his barn. It was still in a slab with the bark on some of it. The belt sheath is by Cody Rowe of Rowe's Leather. Lin

Wow, Lin, that is beautiful.
I love the profile of that head.
Sort of makes me want to grab it and thwack! sumpthin'!
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

That is really nice!

I believe if I had it I would have to use it !!  :biglaugh:

Simple. clean and museum quality!
way to go!

Lin,

That is incredible!    Beautiful work once again. That's exactly what I've been looking for to tote around the woods up here in the People's Republic for last ditch, hand to hand encounters with our gazzilion bears. Hope I wouldn't ever need it but we can't carry guns in archery season. Would you consider makin a plain jane utility version??? I wouldn't want to get something that nice scratched or bloody!

What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

Well, I love my little Shrew Hawk for splitting pieces for my wall tent stove, but THAT would be pretty sporty to have around.  I went to the websitevand it says it shows knives for sale, but for the life of me I couldn't find any, particularly this hawk.  Can you point me to it Lin?  Or let us know the price and wait time?

Thanks guys for the kind words.

Steve O,  It's not on my site yet. It has not been finished long, but even so, I have trouble getting photos added because my webguy is a busy feller. As for the price and availability, just holler at me by email. I dont make many hawks at this point, but may make a few as I go along. Thanks. Lin

Lin what grit did you use for the finish on the head?  How do you keep the finish from rusting?  I like a heavy coat of hard carnuba wax but still get surface rust over time.
