Well i have always wanted a Randall knife and my dad just let me in on the fact that he and my mom plan to buy me one for my 40th birthday.  Yep I am spoiled.  Not being very patient I don't intend to get on the waiting list and wait for my 45th birthday to receive it.  That frees me up to shop around for an existing knife that is previously owned or to buy new from a dealer (several around here).

I am not much of a collector.  I will be using this knife for camping and hunting.  What models do you have/recommend?

Only advice I have is to buy from a trusted source.I have known of several fakes being sold.

Model 27 Trailblazer and the Model 21 Little Game are nice for hunting type knives. If I was getting a Randall I personally have always wanted one of the fighters. Be careful and check them out hard to make sure they are legit...there is an article in one of the knife magazines abut Chicom fakes of big name knives....if the deal is too good to be true then it probably isn't a deal! Post pics when you get it!!!!

You want an older brother? I'm up for adoption.  ;)

THE NEW MODEL 28 LOOKS MIGHTY VERSATILE TO ME.

I have always admired the 25-5. Looks like a great all around hunting knife.

Yep, Doug, I am as old as I have ever been!

Thanks for the input, guys.  I have some options to look at some knives over the next few days.  I will let you know what I come up with.

So the waiting list is five years long, but once a year there is a sale that starts at 7:00 AM where they sell unclaimed orders.  We got there this morning for the sale at 5:57 AM and were the 42nd and 43rd people in line.  There were 100 plus knives available and the limit was two per customer.  When your number was called you could buy a knife and when all people were served they went back through the list.  I think that we were the only ones there who weren't buying two knives each.  The guy in front of me said he owns 39 Randall knives and the guy behind me has bought, traded and sold hundreds.

I picked a beautiful model 25.  It will get cleaned, sharpened, and matched with a sheath and will be ready to pick up in a few weeks.

Very neat event and I met some serious knife collectors there.

I will post some picks of the knife when I get it, but it looks very similar to the one posted above.

Wow! That is cool how they did that. I'm sure there are more then a couple collectors picking those Randall's up and flipping them back out for a tidy sum...

The model 11 has been a favorite of mne, the model 19 is really growing on me.  Miles Weize has a web site, Google Miles Weize Knives.  He has Ramdalls and Treeman as well as others, look at the model 19.  Between Stainless or O1 tool steel and combinations of handle material it can be challanging to settle on one.
