I just finsihed this Camp Knife today. It has a 9 3/4 inch blade with the OAL of 15 inches. The blade is 5160, the guard is wrought iron, and the spacers are stainless, bronze and black carbon fiber. The handle is Micarta that has a very unusual color, kind of lime green and somewhat transluscent. I can actually see the allignment pins thru the material and if a bright light is behind it you can see the shadow of the tang. It's not distracting, just unusual. Lin

That's sweet, Lin. Will I see it on Saturday?
Is that the stuff from Tracy Mickley?
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Karl,
I got it from Jerry Petty, another maker. I dont know where he got it. Here is a snapshot of the parts before final glue up and assembly. Yes, I'll have it with me. Lin

Lin, I picked up some of that same stuff at a New England show.  I was thinking it was all fiberglass.  Do you see any fabric weave in it?  Cool looking blade...Jeff

Mr.Lin,

Gorgeous work. I really like that micarta. Will it glow in the dark? Looks as if it might. Hah.

Yes, it has fabric in it. I know it's hard to saw. Very tough.

It does have the same look as that stuff that glowed in the dark, but I dont think it glows. Lin

Great job Lin! I think that is called G11. It is a G10 type micarta with no color in it...just the natural color of the micarta with no dye. A lot of people call it ghost micarta. I've always wondered how it would look on a hidden tang knife. Now I do! Awesome!

Lin, I'm sure I got the same stuff and it is really hard to saw.  I wanted to slice it into thinner slabs for my small blades...but I couldn't get a straight cut with my band saw.  I had to send it to my son-in-law's machine shop for them to cut.  They thought it was some kind of fiberglass block...Jeff

Jeff, that has to be what it is. I spent 30 minutes cutting on my band saw and went 2 1/2 inches. I had to shut down and borrow someone else's saw.
Skullie, is G11 the official name? I want to look like I know what I'm talkin about.    Lin

Lin...at USA Knifemaking supply they call it "Jade Ghost Canvas" and say it is G10.
Make sure you wear a respirator because G10 is a fiberglass laminate! I have some in scales and now I guess I'll have to try it! LOL!

I got the stuff pretty cheap...now I know why    It sure is pretty finished up...but a lot of work!

Yeah, it's G-11.  I'll post the link on BF of the guy I got it from.  Really strong stuff!!  Have yet to use it, but thought it would make a pretty unbreakable hawk handle(albeit not very traditional).

Very nice. It's very futuristic in appearance. I like it. Now find a way to insert a neon light of some type that would be interesting. Any chance you could take a pic in a dark room with a back light? I'd like to see that if you have the time. Well done. Skippy
