My first use of brass, first through tang, first flat grind, and well...the rest is just sanding. I am REAL familiar with sanding.

One thing I ALWAYS keep in mind that I learned early on was "don't do anything before you have to."
In other words, leave everything in oversized blocks until you have the fit-up of the pieces complete, then shape the pieces.

Gotta say too, love walnut and brass.  About as classic a look as there is for my money!
