MY first file knife w/help

I made my first file knife & sheath with guidance from my good friend & master knife maker Dave Ricke( goes by "knifemaker" on here).

File blade, elk antler scales, brass pins. The sheath is heavy cowhide hand stitched & dyed.

I learned to appreciate you knife makers a whole lot more after this experience. Also, how hard it is to take good knife photos. It was very nice luxury having an expert to help & have the use of real machines. Whenever I wanted to leave something sub par I was told, "not in my shop"

It was fun & the first of many, I hope.Thanks for looking.

You should be proud of that being your first. Thats a very nice knife. Looks like a nice useful design.I like the taper from the handle to the blade.

TX , it is made from an old file. I got a dozen from an auction that were ground flat. I believe Dave said it was w2 steel & that he hates working with it, something about drudgery comes to mind.

Mysticbow, it is 7&1/2"oal, the blade is 3&1/2"

ALW, I just slow ground the shape out of the file, & finished it from there. No heat treating yet, I am a super rookie. We drilled the pin holes with a carbide bit. It is very hard steel. I wanted a lanyard in the back, but I coud not get thru with a bigger drill.

It took a while to sharpen, but I have no hair left on my forearms.
