This present originates from the Texas Sweat two years ago.  When hunting with Ted, he mentioned he had some pre-ban walrus tusk and asked if I was interested.  I thought about it...than after a nanosecond, I said "You Bet!"

Well the piece has been on my shelf ever since...but I couldn't bring myself to cutting slabs off it with my band saw knowing I'd waste a good portion of it.  Enter my son-in-law and his father with their R&D machine shop.  They do a lot of precision work in the medical field like catheters for Boston Scientific...etc. For them, it was easy and precise to slab it flat and any thickness I wanted.

I finally finished the Walrus Caper today and emailed Ted.  It turns out Mr Fry turns the Big 50 on Wednesday   :clapper:   How cool is that for procrastination!!!

Happy Birthday my Friend...Doc

Caper with walrus ivory handle, 5160, OAL 6 inches.  Size was limited to length of the walrus tusk piece.

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

That is another work of art.

How about a question...will blood stain the ivory?

tippit

Steve O, I guess we'll have to ask Ted after bear season  :)   But I think I addressed that question today with my Walrus Ivory Neck knife,  I left the outer skin on the tusk...tippit
