This was my great grandfathers knife, its definetely showing the years in the handle. So I decided to fix it up a bit.

I removed the scales and pins, cleaned the rust off the tang and hit the whole blade with some 000 steel wool and oil.

I wont dare do anything more to the blade, definetely has the antique look I'll never get back if I try to polish it, besides, its in great condition anyways.

I can make out "Fryecraft © Carbon", But I thought it was an Old Hickory. Maybe a knock off of it? Searched the web and no results found..

Used all the osage I have left, and the rest will be deer antler or walnut, I can't decide which.

What do yall think?

Tell me what you would like, walnut or deer antler. I'll make my choice after seeing which gets the most approval...

All advice and constructive critisism is welcomed.

Original Handle

All cleaned up

Osage scales

And as it is now, epoxy is set and its waiting on the rest of the handle.

I'm thinking antler to offset the osage as it darkens.

I'd say try to salvage a couple pieces from the handle your Grand dad had on there and combine them.

Hey all,

Haven't made any progress, I'm going to town tomorrow to get some more epoxy so I can finish it up soon.

Todd, great idea but the material has been disposed of, sadly. Both scales were cracked and weren't in great shape anyways.

Thanks yall for all the interest, I'll get on the ball soon.

Ok yall, here's what I'm lookin at.

I decided to keep the handle material from the same property that he lived on, and where I also am living.

So it has osage from the farm, with cedar between the osage and walnut, which also came from the farm.

Its not my best work and my glue lines arent too great, but they are good enough.

Real messy right now, and I didnt take a pic after shaping the cedar, so its covered in epoxy at the moment.

Fitting.

As of right now.

And here's a peek at another project, my great Grandfathers Axe!

Going for an Osage handle on this, Hopefully.

After I cleaned it up a bit with some 60 grit sandpaper and 3 in 1 oil.

If you though that side looks bad, heres what the side I havent done looks like.

Heres the almost finished knife. I have it down to 60 grit and I'll progressively go to  200 and put a coat of tung oil on her.

Thanks for lookin.

Everything has a place and purpose, and when it gets out of place, it's loosing it's purpose. (my Grandpa )

Buzz: This was difficult in itself getting everything presice. No power tools used on anything I do. All hand saws, rasps, files, and progressive sanding. Particularly difficult with Osage, that stuff is harder than my head!   :knothead:
