Looking for input on which bow you feel is easiest to learn to shoot.

John57

Keeping in mind most (so called longbows)out there are not longbows at all,I voted recurve.
Maybe you should of included hybrids so all the pretenders had a vote as well.

bentpole

Your 100% correct JOHN57 there should be a catogory for hybrids. I didn't vote guess I'm a pretender huh?

flungonin

you should also ask which is the most fun to shoot and also include hybrids as mentioned above

Lefty

Hey John I didn't know Chrissie Hynde shot a hybrid longbow.  I love their music and shot a hybrid also, though it is 64" long.  How long do they have to be before it counts?

kennym

I can't vote as none of em are easy for me,but I do pretend to shoot a D/R hybrid.......  :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I voted for the recurve as been the easiest, especially converting from a compound, to learn quickly.

I'm more accurate with a recurve and like shooting them, but I have more fun shooting the "hybrid" longbows....Mike

I voted for recurves. I fell like long bow should be classic or R/D style bows without the recurve style grip or riser. JMO

Mudfeather

It might just be a hybrid with a recurve riser and longbow limbs.

I really love to shoot the ones I'm making  right now.

hey John57!  not real sure what you meant by "pretender" and I'm VERY curious so would you please explain?

Rob DiStefano

IMO, there are four basic stickbow types - recurve, hybrid longbow, stealth longbow and straight/reflex longbow.

Y'all know what a recurve is, right?

The hybrids can have mild to very aggressive r/d limbs and although the string won't touch the limb tips, they have a snakey tip braced look that's closer to recurve than longbow.  Y'all have seen a glut of these puppies and they're the most prolific of all "longbows" these dayze.

Stealth longbows can have mild to very aggressive r/d limbs but when braced these bows form a classic "D" limb shape.  Examples are the 21st Century Edge and Horne 62" longbows.

Straight/reflex longbows are all in the Hill style, with straight or slightly reflexed limbs that form a classic "D" shape when braced.

But heck, IMHO, as long as only the string loops touch the limb tips I'll call it a "longbow".  YMMV.
