Hi all,

Well...you guys did it...bit me with the bug to build a knife.

I don't have a bunch of $$ to purchase a belt sander now, so was thinking I would start with my 4.5" grinder and some files.

My question for the group is where can I get some good files for hopefully not too much money.

I googled tonight and didn't see much and looked at Harbor Freight and Home Depot today..not much there.

Any links or directions would be most helpful.

Thx.

Ya best bet are garage sales....also check craigslist.org for local stuff that people are looking to sell...so far this summer I bought a brand new, in the box craftsman 4x36 and 6"wheel sander for $50
also picked up a 6 horse snow blower for my father at $20 etc. and a bunch of other good stuff...it's out there but ya gotta look!

Cheers, Gene

Elkshooter,
I buy Nicholson, Simmons, or Grobet for metal removal. But sometimes you can get them at wholesale outlets for a lot less. Keeping the file clean with a file card and/or chalk will make a file last longer.
A friend gave me a box of 10 that were made in Portugal. I thought that they would be poor quality, but they cut pretty good.
If I was to make a blade from a file, I would probably use Nicholson.
