Hi All,
I have an older schrade old timer belt knife and a gerber gator. Both are made in the USA. What do you think of these knives.

dont know about the gerber, but you cant go wrong with an old timer

Both are probably keepers with being made in the USA...getting pretty rare for production knives.

havent hadany experience with the gerber but a few of my buddies have them and like them very much

Both are good knives. The old timer sharpens easier.You could skin a rock with the gerber though and it still holds an edge.

Old Timer was made by Schrade. Schrade made several good knives for the money, including Uncle Henry, which was more or less a "brother" to Old Timer.
  I hated to hear they closed shop. One good thing for me is that I bought some of their left over 1084 blade steel. I use it a lot on my hunting knives. Yea it will rust, but it's good steel which is the botttom line for a good using knife.

yep it was a bummer to see schrade close up, I live about half an hour from their shop in Ellenville NY.
I have several "Old timers" and "Uncle Henry's" I just love them!  

my first hunting knife was an old timer folder with stag handles, i got it when i was 8 and have skinned about 30 deer with it.....my dad likes to collect the older ones

I bought a Schrade Sharpfinger back in the 70's. That knife was a faithful servant for the last 30+ years. Last year I gave it to my Grandson for his first Hunting Knife.  

Thats wonderful lee. I'm sure it will be one of his prized possessions. My Grandfather gave me a Lee Endfeild rifle many years ago on my first Deer hunt. As a rifle it had no great value but meant the world to me. All these years later I still carry that rifle every fall...When I give my bow a day off  lol.
