Well they say that imitation is the best form of flattery (or something like that).  Anyway, after looking at the crossdraw build along by robtattoo, I thought I would make a sheath, but decided I needed a knife first, so I attempted to copy rob's blade design and this is what I came up with.

1095 HC steel, OAL 7 1/2", blade 4".  Cocobolo handle with 3/16" brass pins.

Thanks for the compliments.  The more I make and read from folks on here and other places, the more I'm truly enjoying it.  I'm finding the grinding is not as tedious as it once was and I enjoy making the different styles of knives.  I hope folks don't mind the attempts to copy theirs.  Just got some new stock from Jantz and once I get settled in Alaska gonna give some bigger knives a go.  Bought some 1/8" and 3/16" 1095 flat stock.  The knives may not cut good with the 3/16" but if you get hit in the head with it you will know it.  Thats some heavy stuff.

I'm heading to the far north for a new job tomorrow and will be on the road for a couple of weeks.  I'll check in once I get settled up there.

Try darker thread on your sheath next time. I think over time you will like it better...thats the voice of experience talking.

The white thread will get dirty and look dingy through use...blood, rain, sweat, dirt, etc will all play a hand in making it so. But at least folks will know you USE it, and are a successful hunter, right?

I used the artificial sinew and the heated mink oil and wax, does that to the thread.  Thats the on thing I don't like about the mixure.  Makes it easy for treating the whole sheath and gives it a nice color on the leather.  

I will say it sits nice on the belt even when driving.  I'm in British Columbia right now and have had it on since I started.

Got ya. Probably my screen and the color settings then, makes it just look white. I was lucky enough to get one of Rob's knives during the recent swap...and yours is a very nice homage to them.

Well, I guess a different opinion.  I like the white thread. If it gets darkened "with use", then that is all the better.  Dan
