This one I've made for a hunting buddy, from a piece of Cocobolo he sent me. The wood in the knife is a perfect match to the wood in his favorite hunting bow.

OAL - 9-3/4"
Blade - 4-3/4"
Steel - 1/8" 01 (who'd a thunk  :D ) Scandi ground with basic filework
Handle - 5" Cocobolo, reducing pins with an 5/16" lanyard tube

I like it Rob, very nice.  I've done a couple cocobolo handles and its a nice wood to work with.  I like the figure in yours.
What is a Scandi grind?
Can you show a pic looking down the edge starting from the choil, please.

Basically a Scandi, short for Scandinavian, grind, is a very short flat grind. It generally runs 1/4 to 1/3rd of the way from the edge to the spine. It's a very hardwearing, easy to sharpen grind that takes very little maintainence. Far stronger than either a full flat or hollow (YUK!) grind. Although not ideally suited for really fine work, a Scandi is one o the best allround profiles for outdoor use.

Thanks Rob, thats what I thought it was.  Now does that angle actually bcome the cutting edge or is there a secondary grind that is the cutting edge?  Hope that makes sense.  I ask because the pic is blurred.

My hollow ground knives actually have a short flat grind to them...called an edge!

Steve, by rights a Scandi grind should have no secondary bevel. However I do occasionally grind a micro-bevel (maybe 1/64") just to make sharpening easier. Folks often are put off sharpening the entire bevel. Here's a link showing how a Scandi should be sharpened....

Dan, I think the *YUK* is half aesthetic & half practical. I've just never seen the advantage to a hollow ground edge.
