Thanks for the kind words, guys.  :-)

Jason - thanks. I'll see if I can find that how-to.

bearhair - good luck. I hope you take a lot less time than I did. :-p

rh44mag - I have mine set at seven inches.  It was a lot lower and a lot louder last year, but my bow seems to like seven inches pretty well.

mmgrode - I was still sitting - sorta.  Earlier, three does had walked behind me down an alternate trail.  Of course, I second-guessed my spot and moved close enough to ambush that trail - figuring that any additional deer might be likely to follow that first bunch.  I waited in the slightly new spot for an hour or so and (of course) the next group - my doe leading six or seven others walked down the trail I had originally been watching.  It never fails - hehe.  Anyway, had I stayed put, my shot would have been a good deal shorter and easier, but it looks like all worked out well enough.

Great trophy!  I hope to be joining your ranks with my first trad kill this year as well.

Congrats!!

hoebow,
Hope you didn't take my comments as saying 30 yards it to far. I personaly cannot make that shot. I rarely hunt in an area I can even get that kind of shot unless I am way up in a tree. I'm glad for anyone who can make a shot at that distance. In this situation he followed up an made  good finishing shot after a more marginal hit. (Heck you can make a marginal hit at ten yards or less) The follow up shot is always good if you can get it. I think  GingivitisKahn did awesome and I am happy for him.

Just wanted to clear that up. Just in case I was misunderstood.

Oh - something I failed to mention.  You guys will appreciate this.

Usually I hunt south of the city, so I wasn't 100% sure where the deer check station was close to where I shot mine.  A quick phone call and I learn that my neighbor is saying the check station is a 'yellowish brown building right close to the intersection of Old State and 36-37.  We drove around there and the only building I could find that met that description was the local Humane Society.  Lol - I'll get that guy.

Bowana

Nice doe, and from the ground too!! You the man.

Coop

Congrats. 30 yards is a long shot in the woods, glad it turned out ok.

Nice job you only get one first. Humane Society did you ask them to weigh it for ya? LOL

Great job!

That first one is so special.  I have always wanted to do something with the hide but the two times I tried the hide went bad before I got to it or was so stiff that it wasn't usable.

Congratulations again.

Nice Job, grab lower limb while the bow is strung and hold the string in place and twist it the opposite way, well past the twist. Check for straightness, ya may have to reapeat this once or twice a day every few days but it will come out rather easy. Congrats!! Shawn

Hey thanks Shawn - I'll give that a try.

Congrats. Nicely done! My first traditional whitetail was taken with a DH recurve also. Great bows for the money.

I'd either have the hide tanned hair on for a reminder or have tanned hair off and make something out of it, that way you'll always remember!

Congrats!

Charlie - Alum Creek.  Now I'm torn between that and Deer Creek. It's a good problem to have. :-)

Kahn, that shop you mentioned on 36/37 is run by a trad man.  He is a little rough around the edges but he's a heck of a guy.  Congrats on the Doe
