Killdeer

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

Killdeer

Traveling back in time, Saturday spread its lovely petals gently through my dreams, and I awoke to golden sun glinting off the snow.

Arriving at the doings, I was elated by the thrum of activity throughout the scene. Walking in the front door the first thing I saw was Curt putting his clothes on. OK, he had lots of clothes on already, but he was putting more on. We said howdy and I went in search of more free coffee. The back yard was abuzz.

Normally, I get nervous when there are more than three people around. Crowds make me flee. Not this one!

I was only looking serious 'cause I was planning things........and trying to make sure I didn't fall out of the truck!

The truck pictures bring me back to wondering what the officer in the cruiser must have been thinking as he passed us.....

"There ain't no way I have enough paper on me to stop those guys"

"I know there must be  a law against that, I just don't know what it is"

He looked at us and kept right on driving without ever slowing down......

How many people were fortunate enough to win one of Killdeers arrows at the auction? I just so happen to possess#9 and it is spined 49# that puts it in the range of my Hills, I was going to put it up as a reminder of the 2008 JLMBH. Then I thought it is such a nice arrow that it would be a crime not to use it on deer, so that is my plan for the up coming fall season. Hopefully I will get the chance to harvest a deer with mine, and don't worry Kathy I wont shoot it in the head   :bigsmyl:

I have #8 Jim.....Killy won a tube quiver with one of her arrows in it during the raffle. She took the arrow out,and looked around the room.....then she smiled and handed it to ME!!!!! I cannot express the feelings of emotion that I felt at that moment, but that moment will remain in my memory forever!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I hear ya Jim arrows are made to fly in most case's anyway LOL Not sure I'd use one of Curts stone point creations but I have let loose my Bernie arrow and if My killdeer arrow was a tad longer I may shoot that too but only with a good back stop, don't wanna loose them ya know their special.

Took Sonny out yesterday the last weekend day of the season around here.We only got 2 and I had to stop cause Sonnys tail was even worse than last weekend on the bunnyhunt. The bunnies were running pretty big loops till the last one held up at one end doing mini circles.Sonny was leaving a 4' wide blood trail with his tail whipping back and forth,if it was a deer I'd expect to find it.Since he wieghs in @ just over 40#s I thought I better leash him before he ran out or got so low that he just fell over.I did check by the way and Sonny is 7 yrs old this past Dec. One of these yrs I'm gonna hafta leave him home.Still a few yrs off yet

Anybody got any idea's on what to do about his tail? He ain't smart enuff to stop waggin it so hard when he's in the brush and I can't have him loosin that much blood to often or the hunt will end early like it did yesterday
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

That will truely be a sad time Tom.....I cannot even IMAGINE a Joan Leonard Memorial Bunny Hunt without Sonny.....

I'm just glad it's a few years from now. But when the time comes for Sonny to lay beside the Eternal Campfire.....We will have to shoot an arrow into the sunset.....In Honor of our Faithful Friend.

That arrow is hopefully a good 10plus yrs away. He'll hafta be pulled from the hunt before then.Heck some of us may well hafta sit out some of the pushes it's not an easy street hunt as I,m sure everybody thats been has figured out.

By the way Morning folks   :coffee:
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

Aram

You know thefriendly type? The really, really friendly? The kind that just comes and sits in your lap    ...
...Mike?!?!?  :scared:    :scared:

At the end of the auction Ken said he had Ru's knife and that's what he wanted most from the table. That was such an awesome compliment!

Izzy

Swampbuck, on Sonny did you ever consider using duct tape on the end of his tail for hunting?I dint think it would hurt to remove it if you went slow.Hes a hard dog your lucky to have him.Hopefully we'll have our pup by next years hunt.

If he's hunting he'd probably forget about the tape otherwise he doesn't like sticky LOL Gonna ask around ,check with the vet too. It's been a problem the last few weeks it just got bad fast yesterday. He basically only goes out on the weekends but I try to have him hunt at least once for a couple hrs every weekend it's what he likes to do best.

I'll probably give him the weekend before next yrs hunt off even if he won't like that idea much
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

Tom, you could try that liquid band aid stuff. It burns like heck when you first put it on, but it does work. You'd probably have to hold him down for the first coat. LOL

They also make some stuff just for animals that is suppose to stop the bleeding for times when you cut their nails to short or they run through a barb wire fence. I've used it and it works ok as long as they don't move too much. In this case I doubt it would be of much help. Maybe you could PM Tippet and see what he recommends.
