I started out at 4:00pm walking back to my stand when I jumped a couple of doe. I managed to stalk within my shooting comfort zone, picked a spot and let the arrow fly. The Silvertip hit it's mark, double lung shot at 20yds. I felt confident of the shot so I let her expire and continued down the trail to my stand. The wind was out of the south east which limits the stand choices because of the way the property is laid out. I chose my stand location and settled in. At 6:40 I spotted movement working it's way towards me, it was windy so sound was limited. I watched this buck freshen up a scrape and continue his way towards me.

There was a fork in the road, one trail would take him directly out in front of me and I would have a 22yd broadside shot and the other trail which he opted for would put him 12yds away quartering to me. I waited for him to pass by a bit so I could have a quartering away shot- I gave a soft mouth grunt, he stopped-picked a spot and let go. It hit him a bit high, dropped him where he once stood. I put another one in him to speed up the inevitable. My knees began to shake and I sank back into the seat on my treestand. I called my wife and told her about my day in the woods and that I wouldn't be home for awhile. Walked in from the hunt and fired up the ATV and picked up the buck first. Dropped him off and after a few pics went back out to extract the doe. That my friends is the days events.

Very nice.  How about some details.  Why did you wait to field dress him?
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Alright Kevin, why was there no Schafer in the pics?

That's a great looking buck you got there.  I love fresh liver and onions.

Lon,

Please forgive me oh great Silvertip  :)  I was so tuckered out from getting him to the truck I forgot to grab my weapon of choice! Prior to getting him at 6:50pm I was on my way to the stand and also shot a nice doe so I had some work ahead of me.

Kevin,

Hey friend, great to see you with that good looking buck. That is always a nice ending to a fun hunt. I hope you can get away from work at the golf course long enough to write up a little story about the hunt. Make sure you include a description of the equipment you used. I know you are about the most fanatical equipment buff out there, so you probably picked it very carefully. Since I am an equipment buff too, I always like hearing what worked well for others. I know any decent bow and arrow combo will take a deer, but for me getting outfitted is a big part of the fun. Obviously, there were many parts of your hunt that were fun, and I for one am eager to hear all about it. Did you have your tree stand hanging on that telephone pole and shoot him when he walked across that concrete pad?    :D  Kind of an urban deer?    :p  Very funny, huh?

Allan,

You are truly hilarious! Once the dust settles at work I will add the story line. Take care.
