Here is the buck I took on Nov 4 in Iowa.  140 inch 3 1/2 yr old.  He broke about 2 inches off of his right main beam between Nov 1 (when Mom last videoed him) and Nov 4 when I killed him.  Shot at 13 yards with the Ancient Spirits takedown that J.D. Emerson built for me (65 lbs, 680 gr arrow with big Snuffer).  This bow has an interesting history...Dad and Jim Emerson were great hunting buddies back in the day, and I grew up with the Emerson kids.  Back in '82 or '83 Dad and Jim cut a bunch of Black Locust in the woods on the old home place where Dad grew up.  When J.D. wanted to build me a bow I asked him to make it out of that wood.  Makes the bow kind of special.

Anyhow, the arrow didn't even slow down thru his chest and he went about 75 yards.  Funny story, I killed this buck from the same tree I killed my big 10 pt from in '03, same date (2 years later) both within 5 minutes of 8 A.M. and both were standing within 10 feet of each other.

Man what a DINK! Thought they had bigger bucks than that in IOWA!

Another nice one for the wall Ryan. Congrats. Bet you don't even breath funny when those bruisers walk in do ya? Neat story on the bow.

Yeah Ryan, that is a bute!!  I've got a few bucks runnin around this year that will push 140" and I would be doin back-flips.  Congrats.

Ferret---Yeah right!  I get to breathing funny when I just SEE 'em, not to mention SHOOTING 'em.  When I get to the point that being close to whitetails doesn't give me the frog-leg anymore it will be time to take up golf! Dad hasnt seen anything he is really interested in yet.

Curt-you should hit things just right-the warm weather has kept things toned down a bunch.  If it cools off it will get to poppin'.

Way to keep up the family tradition Ryan! After all the huge bucks your dad has killed I suppose he is just holding out for a 200 incher. Normally making a statement like that is just a joke but knowing your dads history he just might make it into a prophetic statement. Good luck to you guys the rest of the season. Make sure to keep posting so the rest of us can chase the big ones vicariously!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Hey whats a frog leg? LOL Is that when your leg starts twiching like crazy nuts? I know that feeling! Love it. Great buck.<><

Ryan,
Looks like JD put some good MOJO in that bow!  :D  Congrats on a fine buck, and I love the story that goes with the bow.    I'am sure it's only a matter of time before Jim and your dad shoot a dandy.   ;)  Good luck with the rest of your season! Getting ready to head out and see whats on the move, after two days of high wind and rain.
