I went out today and shot both my Expeditions side by side. one 68" 69@27 fiberglass backed the other 69" 63@27 carbon backed. I shot the same arrows out of both at 25 yds. and found them to appear to have the same speed and arrows hit the same area of the target. Not exact science but I would say imho that the carbon backing is a plus.

That's good. The transition seems to be smooth. Probably the "somewhat quilted" look the woven glass gave to the back is gone.
After a few months another comparison might be interesting.

The riser wood is cocobola with high gloss finish. I also use guitar wax on it to get that glass look.  

I hope to see all of my Hill brother's at the hog hunt.

I have never been able to post pics on this site I sent some to Ross maybe if he gets time he can post those. The carbon looks good on the back it is gray and kind of looks like a snake skin.

The carbon looks fine from what I've seen on the back of the Miller bows.  I wonder though, could he use a layer of cloth or something over the carbon if someone wanted a different look?  Hmm.  I know folks making primitive or glass free bows use all sorts of stuff for backing.

I have John's pics and the carbon Expedition is a fine looking bow. When mine arrives I wouldn't be upset at all if Dave backed it with that rather than glass.

I am (lamentably) very late in posting pics of my two new additions but if I get a chance i'll throw up some of Johns bow as well.

I just picked this up today! It's another addition to my Hill collection. Looking forward to reading it.

Yea I remember his bow being well over 100#s  and his arrows were over 1000 gns.

Question most of us shooting hill bows cant them pretty strong. John Schulz says in Hitten em like Howard Hill when shooting from a tree stand to 'lay the bow down" I was shooting with an old timer the other day and shooting pretty well but he pointed out the way I'm shooting I'm right eye dominate but shooting with my left eye. I doubted this but when I came to full draw he had me close my left eye and sure enough couldnt even see the target with my right eye. It is true to my knowledge that most any weapon is aimed with the right eye if right eye dominant. The only way I could really aim with my right eye was to hold the bow upright with a cant no more than the 1 o'clock position. Your thoughts?

I cant my bow, I'm right eye dominate and I shoot with both eyes open.

If I close my left eye, and aim with my right eye, I can still see the target.

When you cant the bow, is the bow blocking your right eye?

I think the old guy tricked me! I took the bow out a while ago and I am in fact seeing the target and the arrow point with my right eye. I see what he is talking about now I think. If you lean your head over to much while you cant even though both eyes are open you take your right eye out of it. other than that one time he suggested it I havent done it again.

Anybody think 8.3gpp arrow weight for a string follow Old Tom will be too hard on the bow? I've got this set up shooting really well and plan on bringing it to the Hog Hunt but have never gone that low before.
