My grandson has been living with us since birth, he'll be 19 months Sept 7th. Just this week he started putting 2-3 word sentences together.

Picked him up a Jim Taylor hickory longbow the beginning of August. I've been slowly breaking him into  shooting it, even though he can't do it by himself.

He was sitting on my lap while I was watching the video of Lajos Kassai the Hungarian speed shooter, and he has seen me shoot a few times. Suddenly he jumps off my lap, points to his little bow on the wall and says, "Poppy Kostin shoot". He calls me Poppy, and his name is Kostin.
  :bigsmyl:
Couldn't pass this up! Grabbed the bow, 2 arrows, the wife and camera, and headed to the back yard.
Here's what followed:
Getting him started

Look at the target not the camera

Now for the heartbreak, not 1 hour after these pics were taken my daughter announced that she is moving to Georgia, TOMORROW!
She's taking the grandson, and will be living with his worthless loser of a father, 23 years old, never finished High School, and no job.
She's quitting a $600wk job to go be with the bum.
  :banghead:

Kostin and Poppy need lots of prayers for Mommy to use her brain.

Harold,

I'm so sorry for the news you've received, but pray you will be able to continue to be a positive influence in Kostin's life.  He'll need you.  I'll pray for him... for your daughter... and for YOU!

I'm glad you've had this chance to share the thrill of the bow.  That may prove to be a valuable connecting point for many years to come...

Best wishes in the whole situation,

Daryl

Just when things are great kids never seem to stop surprising us. This is so typical. You know what you'd like to do, but you fear to lose your daughter or son and worse, seeing your little grandson. Very tough choices and as you put it, just total heartbreak. From one who knows how it feels to another, I send my best thoughts for your comfort.

Don't give up and stay close, even if it's a phone call every day to the little one. And get down there and teach him to shoot.

Good luck. May God bless her goings and comings and your relationship with them both.

I hope all will be good. I will pray for everything will turn out the way the Lord would have it to be.

Bawana I hate to hear that, My Mom kinda done the same thing to my granddad with me when I was a youngin but I spent the best summers of my life with papa every year after and I sure do miss him. Kostin ain't gonna forget Poppy and Poppy ain't gonna forget Kostin.
With that said I will be in agreement with Bob here and Pray That everything works out just like the Good Lord intended.
I was kind of a bum at 23 myself but my girls came along and the Lord saved my soul and I aint the same guy 11 years later. Got Jesus, Got a good job and a wonderful family so Hopefully it will work out for the good. I will Pray that God comforts you  and Kostin.
God Speed and God Bless.

If she does decide to go through with it and he is what you say, they will not be gone long. They say that love is blind but if she lives with this guy and he doesn't come through for her and your grandson, that will be an eye opener and may work out to be a blessing. I love the pics of your Gandhian and his bow, I hope it works out for the better for you all.

Maybe you could try to talk your grandsons father to come to Florida. Yeah you'd have to put up with him, but you would have the reat of your family together. I'm sure there are a couple things that you could do or say to encourage him to come to you. $600 a week would be a good start. Sounds like he needs a good role model anyway. Good luck! Your grandson needs you!

They will be back.

As little as he is, kids can smell a fake. Especially if he already knows what a man is actually supposed to be. The time with you have given him the tools he needs to know what is right.

Hang in there.

I don't know about Florida, but in Ohio you can get custody if you can prove it is in his best interest. If you go that route though, you may lose your daughter in the storm.

May God bless your family,

Hang in there  :(

I'm with Brian about inviting him into your home, that may be your best bet to keep your grandson on the right path.

Concentrate on the good and hope for the best. Family stuff is never easy but living with a bum and no job will only encourage the situation. Let them go and give them your blessings and if he is truly a bum they will be back I assure you! Have fun with them in the mean time!

my heart goes out to your grandson.  hopefully your daughter will realize at some point that he is where her priorities need to be and that a stable and loving home is where he should be. maybe after living with him for a short time she will see that he is not the kind of man she really wants. in the mean time you just need to keep being the best grandpa you can. call your grandson and visit with him as often as you can.  be a part of his life and in the end things will work out.
