I picked up these two Bear bows at an auction for a decent price today.  I am a selfbow guy and don't know much about FG bows.  I've always wanted a short Bear recurve.  Now I have 2.   They seem to be in great shape except for the spray paint.  They have zero twist.  They both shoot good.  They came with Bear quivers full of wood arrows with broadheads, and a bear arm guard.

What is the best way to remove the paint without harming the bow?

Awesome find. I bet they are gorgeous under that paint.  I have used mineral spirits in the past for removing paint . Others might know a better way.

Goof Off will remove the paint and should not hurt the finish. Do not use on the plastic quiver hood as it will take off the bear markings on the hood front.

Nice pair..
Look to be well taken care other then the quick camo job!
Looks like a Magnum along with your Super Magnum 48.  Original brush buttons and strings..... If they could talk I bet the stories could be interesting!

Great find!  Goo gone or Goof off has worked for me on similar vintage bear bows. I would definitely get some new strings made up for those two.

Yep.  I'm usually hanging out in the bowyers bench.

I can make new strings for them.  Do you have to use B-50 for these old bows?  I have D-97, FF, and similar modern string material.

The Grayling Supermags are a no go for fastflight material.

I traded away all of my B-50.  Looks like I'll have to buy some more at the Tennessee Classic.

I started gently cleaning the mystery bow that's covered with paint.  It's a super  magnum 48 just like the other one only 5 lbs lighter.  I'm going to work on both of them some more tomorrow.

I scrubbed off all of the spray paint.  There was a couple of beautiful bows under there.

The 55 lb bow has some good looking wood in the riser.  It's my favorite out of the two.
