I know you can buy latch repair kits from 3rivers, but those don't appear to include the bottom piece. Is there anywhere you can buy the complete latches?

Unfortunately I believe the answer is no, unless you find someone with a used set. Are you talking about a Magnesium Handle or a Wood Handle?

If you are talking about a Mag handle shoot me a PM, I might be able to help you out.

Thanks OldSchool, that's kind of what I thought. I was referring to the kind for a wood riser.

The sockets are not available and Bear will not sell a set of them. Believe me....I have tried.

X2 what OldSchool said.  I just recently inquired.

I have a question about how the limb pockets are attached to the wood risers.

Is there some sort of post coming off the bottom of the cast limb pocket to give it a stronger connection?Surely these aren't just flush epoxied into the wood cutout?I just always wondered.

I will post pics of the process of attaching sockets to wood risers.

Speaking of latches, has anyone seen where they were put on off center? I think i have, on a new bubinga A riser. Cant get the sting to track down the center of both limbs.I would also like to know when did they stop using screws on the sockets...after the green stripe or before? I too would like to know how the sockets are installed.    Thanks, Bill

MR BILL SHORTY

Nice... Thanks Rich for the info.

JimB

Thanks Rich. That's slick.I'm starting to get it.They evidently built the riser, including overlays and completely shaped it.Then they milled the slots for the fins and completely finished the riser. Then the latches would be installed?

It changed a bit from the original patent drawings.

Once socket fins and pockets have been filled with epoxy they go into a jig with clamps to cure for 24 hours. Pushed out epoxy is quickly wiped away by technician. 24 hour cure.
You can see seperate jigs for different length risers.

For those who have heard of or own Dan Bertalin's book: "Traditional Bowyers Encyclopedia", a good description of the process is included in the Bear Archery section.
