I have a chance to pick up a great 1970 Bear Hunter Recurve! It is in ecellent condition! The only issue is that is has those aweful screwed in sights! Just wondering how much this actually de-values the bow? Any suggestions on the best way to fill in the screw holes? Thanks

It takes a bit of the value away but takes nothing away from the shootability of the bow. The holes can be filled with a bit of epoxie or can be drilled a bit bigger and filled with a small glued in dowel. You might ask this question over on the history and collectible forum....enjoy you old bow,they were good ones!!    

Like most things in life that's a question with many opinions as answers.

It's my opinion that they could devalue a highly sought after model more than some other bows are worth by themselves.  In other words, the devaluation is not a fixed dollar to each bow.

If you want a hunting bow then one with sights could greatly reduce the cost and you still get a great bow.

Sights are just as much a part of history as the bows.

rholzie, Are you buying the bow as a collectors item ? If you're going to shoot/hunt with it, get it bumped around a bit, I wouldn't be bothered by the sights. Take them off. Fill in the holes and re-finish the area.You may be the only one that knows it ever had a sight on it.

A lot depends on the sight.  Some are really collectible in their own right.  Can you post pictures?
