Hello All! I am only 23 and haven't been around trad long but last year I read "I remember papa bear" A great book about Fred Bear, my idol.

There were several mentions and even a chapter almost all but highlighting Fred Bears Razorhead Broadheads. Stories about astronauts taking Fred's famed broadhead to the moon and back. It almost seemed as this was the first tried and true broadhead that helped Fred build his amazing tradtion.

So my question is.. Why don't they sell them anymore?

Thank you everyone for your responses!

Demand fell off when the compound became more popular and it probably costs too much to make it worthwhile for Bear to produce it.

About the Razorheads...back in 1982 (as a 16 yr old kid) when I started bowhunting I went to the local sporting goods store to buy broadheads.  I had a little Bear compound so I was leaning on buying the Bear broadheads.  The guy working at the time told me "you don't want those old Bears, they are as outdated as copper pipe in housing".

Of course this place was also a regular host of Noel Feather, and we all know how that turned out!

Fred told me the biggest mistake he ever made ,was selling the machines to make the razerhead for scrap.

With the trend to all that is "modern and technical"
it's hard to imagine what a guy would do if he could get his hands on the equipment to make Razorheads again. Boy, wouldn't that be something! with the ability to use improved steels and modern tempering equipment they would be better than ever! (come to think of it, naw, don't mess with them, they were pretty darn good as they were!).
