Wade, I tried to pm you but apparently your message box is full.

Please check out my thread "1972 Bear Takedown" and see if that bow may be familiar to you. It certainly is a nice piece of Bear history.

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Windsurfer

Jack, I was a freshman in high school unaware of Fred Bear and the bows he was making.  The only thing on my mind was girls and cars.  That was then.  Now, I have been hunting exclusively with Bear K-mags and Kodiaks for last 40 years, have a small collection of some really nice bows and am living a dream on Higgins Lake.

Give me a call if you come this way, I would enjoy talking with you and sharing my bows with someone else who would appreciate them as much as I do.  Best Regards,  Dave

Senior in high school, I now own 2 of  them, the one is 55# and in need of some TLC from the Good Doctor if he ever surfaces again.. The 45# is probably a 9 at 45#

Great pictures and stories guys!

Jon,

I worked at Sporting goods store that sold Bear Archery products a little later on in the sixties. Around 67-68 I believe. A new Kodiak Magnum was $64.95 at the time. A lot of money to a 15 year old kid that made $1.25 an hour. My first new bow was a AMF Red Wing Hunter that was about half that price.

Was also 13 at that time, couldn't afford a Bear but was shooting/hunting with a Ben Pearson Cougar that cost me $19.95-money I'd saved up from my paper route.

Should have my first '62 Kodiak this week.

Larry m

Oh, to have prices like 1962. If they only made a time machine.
Wade, Your collection never ceases to amaze!!

GreenGrizz

I was brand new in 1962 as were the two Cubs I have. I should be receiving a 1962 Grizzly and a 1962 Kodiak Special by next week. Hmmmm.... Seems like there is a pattern here somewhere....

rdoggsilva

Was a freshman in high school. Had not discovered archery until 1965. Hunted with a Savage M99 (still have it).

Cyclic-Rivers

Herder

Had a 5 DM bow that my Grandmother bought me.
Was on the way to school and had know idea what they are  talking in the radio about the bay of pigs.
Early in the morning, same season as know , falling leaves gave a premonition of coming winter.

(deutsche mark, @ this time 1$ - 4,20DM)
Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

Tom

I was 11 and carrying a solid fiberglas Golden Fox (45#) by Bear on my trapline. Only bow I could afford at the time. Killed my first deer with that bow in '65. Have a '62 Grizzly and '62 Polar now and simply love the grips on them. Wish I could have afforded them then.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
