I met a young man coming out of the woods as I was working the other day. We started chating about hunting and as usual with me it turned to Traditional Archery. He went on to say he had an old bow his Dad had left him when he passed away. It has some damage on one tip and he would like to know if it can be made safe to shoot. He emailed me pics so I'll post and if some of you could help identify the manufacturer and the year i would be thankful.

Bowdoc, think an underlay is in order, or just loctite?

What you have is a Bud Hit Huntsman. I have one just like it. Mine is like new. They came painted camo. Yours needs a little help, but worth the effort.

Bud hitt is still around, although he is in his '80's.  He may be able to fix that bow.  I have his phone number but I will not post it here,  Send ne a PM and I will give it to you.

Two things stand out that identify it as a HIT Bow.

1.  The way the limbs attach to the riser.  Under that cap block there is a bolt joining th parts together.

2.  The cam limb.  The way the limb has a bend in it on both limbs.  Bill Stewart also made his limbs this way.

As rough as that bow is, it is a collectors item.

He is now into trophys and plaques.''His website is:

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.
